Position Summary
The Assistant Diesel Technician supports the Maintenance team in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of diesel-powered vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, and related systems. This role also assists with routine maintenance, repair, and upkeep of concrete batch plant equipment and related systems to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with routine preventative maintenance on diesel trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and company vehicles, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, fluid checks, and tire inspections.
- Support diagnostics and repairs of diesel engines, brakes, suspension, steering, hydraulic, and electrical systems under supervision.
- Help inspect equipment and vehicles to identify maintenance or repair needs.
- Clean, organize, and maintain shop areas, tools, and equipment.
- Assist with parts inventory, stocking, and organizing supplies.
- Retrieve tools, parts, and materials needed for repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Complete basic repair tasks assigned under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain service logs, inspection checklists, and repair documentation as needed.
- Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Assist with field service calls or emergency repairs when needed.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor may include:
- Assist with inspection, maintenance, and repair of concrete batch plant equipment, including conveyors, mixers, silos, hoppers, motors, belts, bearings, and pneumatic systems.
- Perform routine lubrication, cleaning, adjustments, and preventative maintenance on batch plant machinery and equipment.
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and operational issues affecting batch plant performance.
- Help maintain aggregate handling systems, cement transfer systems, dust collection systems, and water systems.
- Perform plant cleanup, housekeeping, and removal of concrete buildup to maintain safe and efficient operations.
- Inspect plant equipment for wear, damage, or safety concerns and report issues promptly.
- Support repairs to batch plant structures, catwalks, ladders, gates, and related components as needed.
- Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and environmental regulations related to plant operations and maintenance.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn diesel repair and maintenance.
Previous shop, automotive, or equipment maintenance experience preferred but not required.
Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently once trained.
Valid driver’s license preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, and work in shop and outdoor environments for extended periods.
Ability to safely use shop equipment, tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
Work performed in shop and outdoor settings with exposure to grease, noise, fumes, dust, machinery, and varying weather conditions.
May require overtime or weekend work based on operational needs.
