Job Description: BUILDING CUSTODIAN LABORER
CLASS NO. 235 EEOC CATEGORY: Service‑Maintenance
PAY GROUP: 1 FLSA: Nonexempt
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Performs custodial cleaning work for municipal buildings.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
1. Reports to: Facilities Manager
2. Directs: This is a non‑supervisory position.
3. Other: Has contact with other city employees and occasional contact with the general public.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Duties*
Operates a vacuum cleaner and hand cleaning apparatus;
Empties and cleans waste receptacles and properly disposes of trash;
Cleans rest rooms, windows, doors, floors, water fountains, and furniture;
Strips, waxes, and polishes floors as needed and instructed;
Shampoos carpets;
Pick up trash or debris around municipal buildings;
Evaluates and reports need for any repairs or maintenance to appropriate personnel; and
Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and equipment, and orders additional items as needed.
Other Important Duties*
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned;
Performs cleaning and custodial work as requested by other city personnel.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: techniques and equipment used in cleaning equipment related to custodial work.
Skill/Ability to: understand and follow oral or written instructions; perform duties in a thorough, timely, and efficient manner without close supervision; evaluate the need for repairs and maintenance, and apply good judgment to varied problems; order supplies and prepare simple records and reports; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High school graduation, or its equivalent;
or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
Appropriate Texas driver's license or available alternate means of transportation.
