SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under the supervision of the Pool Manager and/or Head Lifeguard enforce the safety regulations for the protection of pool patrons; make suggestions for new or updated regulations; assist in general maintenance of pool facilities, and perform other duties as assigned by the Pool Manager/Head Lifeguard and/or Parks & Recreation Manager.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
1. Reports to: Pool Manager/Head Lifeguard and/or Parks & Recreation Manager.
2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
3. Other: Works closely with the Parks and Recreation Department and the general public; has contact with other city employees.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Duties*
Assist in preparing the pools and surrounding areas for approved programs and assist with general maintenance and upkeep of the facility.
Assist with lifeguard programs at the facility, including, but not limited to recreational swimming, swim lessons, and other pool programs and events.
Attend certification or re-certification programs as needed to meet the minimum requirements for employment.
Provide the most adequate protection for patrons.
Assist in maintaining a daily record of maintenance, pH, and chlorine readings in addition to filing incident and accident reports as necessary.
Assist in rendering first aid according to the standards established by the American Red Cross.
Alert Pool Manager of all problems and needs concerning pool maintenance and patron safety.
Participate in daily routine maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.
Be prepared to perform water rescues.
Report all unusual situations, incidents, and accidents to the Head Lifeguard and/or Pool Manager.
Attend all staff meetings as scheduled by the Pool Manager/Head Lifeguard or Parks and Recreation Manager.
Other Important Duties*
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: general pool facilities operations, and personnel policies.
Skill/Ability to: follow regulations and guidelines set forth by Pool Manager/Head Lifeguard; follow procedures and create a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High school graduation, or its equivalent, or currently attending high school.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
Appropriate Texas driver's license or available alternate means of transportation;
American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, or its equivalent;
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification, or its equivalent
