Job Description: PARKS AND FACILITIES MAINTENANCE LABORER
CLASS NO. 915 EEOC CATEGORY: Service‑Maintenance
PAY GROUP: FLSA: Nonexempt
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Performs a variety of manual labor tasks related to the care and maintenance of grounds at city parks, cemetery, recreation sports fields, pavilions, swimming pools, or other city facilities.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
1. Reports to: Public Works Assistant Director; receives direction from Parks and Facilities Maintenance Crew Leader.
2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
3. Other: Has contact with other city employees and occasionally with the general public.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Duties*
Performs maintenance, diagnostic, and repairs on equipment in buildings as needed.
Occasionally operates other light and heavy equipment;
Trim trees and cut trees at the City parks and the City cemetery,
Performs such other duties as may be assigned to assist with special events,
Picks up liter in the parks, down town area, and other City facilities,
Performs routine repairs on equipment in the park,
Assist with water leak repairs on irrigation and recreation sports fields,
Assist in the maintenance of the City parks,
Loads and unloads materials and equipment;
Performs light maintenance and construction duties;
Other Important Duties*
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
Skill/Ability to: understand and follow instructions; perform assigned duties efficiently without immediate supervision; learn to use power or hand-operated tools; tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High School graduation or its equivalent.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
Appropriate Texas driver’s license.
