Position Summary

 

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery used in the production yard and plant environment to move precast concrete products, raw materials, and equipment. This position supports manufacturing operations by safely loading, unloading, transporting, and staging precast concrete components throughout the facility. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is not required for this role as all equipment is operated on-site.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, front-end loaders, mixer trucks, cranes, or other machinery to move precast concrete products and materials.

 

  • Load and unload materials, forms, and finished concrete products within the yard or production areas.

 

  • Safely transport precast components to staging, curing, storage, or shipping areas.

 

  • Assist with placing concrete forms, reinforcing materials, and production supplies as needed.

 

  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.

 

  • Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors immediately.

 

  • Follow hand signals and communicate effectively with ground personnel during lifting and movement operations.

 

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

 

  • Follow all plant safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.

 

  • Assist production teams with other tasks when equipment operation is not required.

 

Equipment Operated

 

  • Large industrial forklifts

 

  • Front-end loaders

 

  • Mixer trucks

 

  • Overhead or gantry cranes (when trained)

 

  • Skid Steer and Motor Grader

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • Ability to sit, stand, and operate equipment for extended periods.

 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when assisting with manual tasks.

 

  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.

 

  • Ability to climb in and out of equipment safely.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Previous heavy equipment operation experience preferred but not required.

 

  • Experience in construction, manufacturing, or precast concrete operations is a plus.

 

  • Ability to follow safety procedures and communicate effectively with team members.

 

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment checks.

 

  • CDL not required.

 

Work Environment

 

  • Precast concrete manufacturing facility and outdoor yard.

 

  • Exposure to dust, noise, heavy machinery, and changing weather conditions.

 

  • Required PPE includes hard hat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and gloves.
